In working on a study of women and their aging bodies, I am seeking to explore identity and the range of sexuality at both ends of the spectrum.
My father at 87, ten years before he died.
He had changed his shirt because his white undershirt was sticking out and ruining the image. As he changed, I saw how gaunt he was around his neck and asked him to hold his shirt up with his hands. The image I saw reminded me of a bust of a statesman or revered man. My father was a salesman most of his life. I wanted to elevate this man to the level of recognition reserved for governors and distinguish him for his honesty and candor in his life.
My mother after a book signing for Quartet: Four North Carolina Photographers.
I was standing close to my mother so that she would not fall as she was very frail. A friend photographed me and my mother and I cropped myself out of the picture.
Taken on my birthday as a part of a white flower series. Image was made in Durham in a small pond on Steve Wainwrights property.
Frontal view of nude body builder was made with a 20×24 Polaroid camera, one of six in the world, when the camera came to visit the Raleigh Durham area.
